Mando San Roman was born in Weslaco, TX and raised in the border town of Progreso, Tx. Soon after graduating from Weslaco High School, and while still attending what is now the University of Texas at Pan American in Edinburg, Tx, he landed his first radio dj job at 910 KRIO-AM. After working part-time at KRIO for approximately 2 years, he landed his second radio job at 96.1 KIWW-FM. That is where his love for bilingual Tejano radio started. He stayed at KIWW for 17 years, working all the on-the-air shifts, from graveyard to the prime-time morning show. At different times during his tenure at KIWW he held the positions of music director all the way up to interim program director.
During the mid to late ’90s he was also co-host for the popular syndicated tv show “Puro Tejano” that aired in most of the major hispanic markets in the nation. Throughout the years he has been nominated as Tejano DJ of the Year and was voted as “Favorite DJ” in The Monitor’s Reader’s Choice awards on more then one occasion. He continued his journey through radio and tv working with La “M”, La Mejor radio network as music director/assistant program director. He was also the only co-host for the long running “Aqui Rogelio” tv show.
He came to KKPS-FM “Que Pasa 99.5” in the year 2002 as program director and co-host of the number one radio morning show in the Rio Grande Valley. He continued as program director for QUE PASA and “Jose 101.1FM” until the year 2010. He has also appeared as co-host or guest host on numerous occasions on different Univision TV shows like “Despierta con Univsion”, “El Show de Marcos Valdez” and others.
